Checking In — Matt Murdock x Reader Daredevil One-Shot

“Call me if you need anything, Foggy.” You said as you picked up your purse and slung it over your shoulder. You straightened out your jacket and patted it down for your phone, feeling it in the right pocket of your jacket.

“Will do. See you tomorrow?” Foggy said, looking up from his desk riddled with papers. He gave you a smile and raised his hand as he remembered something. “Oh! Could you pick up some coffee beans on your way in tomorrow? And Karen too? Her car is still out after she got t-boned by that truck.”

“’Course.” You said. “I’d be my pleasure. See ya, Fog!” With your little list of things to remind yourself to pick up in the morning, you left the Nelson and Murdock office onto the streets of Hell’s Kitchen.

You tried to call Matt on your break to ask how he was doing, but he didn’t pick up. It was unusual because he almost always picked up when you called him. Something told you that you needed to check up on him and you changed your course from your house to Matt’s apartment.

You ascended up the stairs and down the hall to Matt’s apartment door, knocking on it a few times before calling out. “Hey Matt! It’s (Y/N). Are you okay in there?” You were met with silence and your brows furrowed. “Matt. Please stop messing with me. Answer the door.” Silence again.

You bit your bottom lip and sighed softly, leaning down to the potted plant by his door. You lifted one of the rocks sitting on top of the soil and took the key that was hiding underneath it. You moved the rock back and put the key in the door, turning it until you heard the click of the lock. You stowed the key away in your inner jacket pocket. You opened the door and walked into the small hallway. As you walked down the hall into the apartment, you dragged your fingers against the wall similarly to how you saw Matt do it.

You rounded the corner and was met with Matt seated on the floor, leaning his back on the wall between the two large windows. “Hey. Matt?” You said once again and he was unresponsive.

His face appeared helpless and hopeless. Concern riddled your body as you briskly walked over to the round table, depositing your purse there before walking over to Matt. You knelt down in front of him and softly placed your hand on his stubbly cheek.

Matt turned his head, saying something incoherent as he raised his hand to yours on his cheek. “I-I…” He looked scared and shaken up which was something you never saw from him. He was always so sarcastic and sure of himself despite the fact that he couldn’t see.

You took his other hand and held onto it, lifting his knuckles to your lips and placing a kiss on them. You placed your forehead against his and rubbed your numb against his stubble. “It’s okay. I’m here…” You repeated over and over again as you waited there with him.

Matt slowly calmed down and sat in silence. His breathing calmed and his heartbeat slowed to a steady resting beat. His muscles relaxed and it had to have been about an hour until his chuckle rumbled deeply in his throat, finally hearing your soothing voice. “If I knew that you could kneel down in front of me for so long, I would’ve suggested a more pleasurable activity than just sitting here.” He teased, knowing that he would get a reaction from you.

Hearing his voice along with his teasing comment, you dropped your hands into your lap before giving him a jab to his arm for his comment.

“Ow…” He winced through his teeth and rubbed where you hit. “What was that for?” He asked, chuckling softly.

“For your sick little comment. I was just trying to calm you down and you have to be a little perv about it.” You answered, sighing softly while you shook your head.

Matt chuckled and his lips curled into a smile. “Thank you. For that. It helped out more than you know.” He said, reaching out and feeling around for your hand and squeezing it once he had your hand in his. He heard your heart beat faster in your chest and heard the blood rushing to your cheeks.

“Wh-What happened anyway? What was going on? I’ve never seen you like that before.” You asked, concern lining your voice.

As your tone changed, Matt squeezed your hand a little tighter and he dropped his head towards his lap. “I uh… You see… My ears started ringing and I lost my hearing temporarily.” He explained. “I got disorientated and freaked out. And that is how I ended up here.” He ran the pad of his thumb along the knuckle of your index finger in circles.

You looked down at your hands as he touched your knuckles and a small smile curled on your lips. “That… is a real shitty explanation. But I’ll take it.” You said with a small chuckle as you looked up at his face.

He chuckled along with you and leaned forward a little to adjust himself. He deeply inhaled, taking in his favorite perfume that you wore just for him whenever you would come into the office. Matt exhaled contently. “As long as you’re here, do you want to stay for dinner? I can make us something. It won’t be nice, but it’ll be something.”

You shook your head. “No way.” You poked his chest and laughed softly. “You aren’t making anything. Leave that to me. Especially after your little incident here. We can’t afford to have you break anything else besides the glass that I walked by when I came in.”

Matt snorted and nodded his head after a beat. “Alright. You cook. I guess I’ll just stand here and look pretty then?”

“Exactly.” You said simply and rose to your feet, urging Matt to do the same which he did while holding onto your hand. “Let’s see what you’ve got in this bachelor pad, huh.” You wriggled your hand from his and walked across the floor into the kitchen. You rummaged through the fridge and sighed softly at the lack of ingredients in there. “Your fridge is so sad. How does takeout sound?” You looked over at Matt as he walked to the couch, easing himself onto it to sit down.

“Takeout sounds great. Want me to put in the call? On me, of course. For being here for me and helping me through this… spell.” Matt slightly turned his head back towards the sound of your voice.

“Fine.” You said exasperated while you walked to the couch and noticed that he started to look for his phone. You searched around the apartment for his phone and walked back to him when she found it. “Here. I’ve got your phone in my hand.” You grabbed onto his wrist and put his phone on his open palm.

“Thank you.” He chuckled softly before he called his favorite Chinese takeout place and put in his order, then your favorite meal off the menu that he remembered flawlessly. He thanked the person he talked to on the other end and hung up the phone, placing it carefully on the table top. “Food should be here in twenty minutes. What should we do until then?”

You slid yourself onto the couch and sat on one leg while letting the other dangle off the side. You turned to him and hummed softly as you thought. “How about truth or dare?” You asked innocently.

Matt nodded and chuckled a little. “That sounds like fun. Me first. Truth or dare?”

“Truth.” You said cautiously. You had a feeling that he had something devious in mind if you would have gone with dare and you aren’t sure if you were ready for something like that.

Matt turned to the side to face you and leaned his head against his fist after propping up his elbow on the back of the couch. “Are you going out with anyone?”

You shook your head, forgetting that he couldn’t see. “No. No. I’m not going out with anyone. Truth or dare, Matty?” You bit your lip softly as your heart beat a little faster, waiting for his choice.

“Truth.” He answered with a smug smile.

“Are you going out with anyone?” You repeated his question that he asked you.

“You can’t reuse the same question.” He scolded.

“Yes I can. Who says?” You crossed your arms stubbornly before glaring at the brown haired male.

Matt chuckled and smirked. “I do. Ask something else. Keep it interesting. I promise that I won't repeat questions either to keep it fair.”

You exhaled sharply through your nose and nodded your head, running your fingers through your (H/C) hair. “Fine. Is there anyone you want to date?”

“Yes. There is. She works at this law firm with me and she recently came to my rescue.” The smirk sitting on Matt’s lips didn’t leave as he continued. “She has this beautiful personality and I’m pretty sure that she wants to date me too. Truth or dare?”

His words left you speechless and your heart pounded hard in your chest. The blood rushed to your cheeks and you felt dizzy from his words. “Um… T-Truth.”

“Pick something else.” He urged.

“No. I picked truth. I’m not changing it.” You insisted, shaking your head furiously.

“Live a little next time then.” Matt chuckled. “Would you date me?” His own heart raced in his chest as he waited for your answer. He shifted closer to you and his fingers barely grazed over yours, sending a small electrical shock through your arm and down your spine.

Your heart skipped a beat and you shuddered softly. “Y-Yeah. I would.”

“Why?” He asked, hoping that you wouldn’t notice that he asked an additional question.

“You already asked your question. My turn. Truth or dare?” You stuck your tongue out at him and gently placed your hand on his leg.

His breath hitched and he swallowed. “Uh… Dare.” He breathed, his fingers barely tracing along the length of your fingers to your palm.

You closed your eyes and your cheeks flushed as ideas of several different things that you could ask him to do, but you settled on something that wouldn’t completely embarrass either one of you if the takeout came in the middle of your escapades. You bit your lip softly. “Kiss me.”

The tone of your voice told Matt that you were nervous after saying your dare. He ran his fingers up your arm to your shoulder then your neck, settling it there. His thumb reached out and touched just under your chin. He guided himself closer to you slowly until his lips lightly grazed yours. He leaned forward enough to slot his lips against yours. He wrapped his other arm around your, pulling you closer and kissing you deeper.

You melted at his touch and his kiss, kissing him back passionately. You reached up and placed your hands on his chest, grabbing a handful of the fabric of his grey shirt and pulled him closer.

In the midst of the kiss, you crawled onto his lap and released his shirt, now wrinkled from your tight grasp. You wrapped your arms around his neck and moaned softly against his lips as he wrapped his arm around your frame tighter.

He lowered his hand on your neck to your waist, grabbing onto it and pulling you impossibly closer. He held onto you for dear life like he was scared that you would fly away. Blood rushed to his cheeks, down his chest, to his sweatpants which began to make a tent that pressed against your thigh. He nibbled at your bottom lip eliciting a moan from your slightly parted lips.

Just as you were opening your mouth, there was a knock on the door. You pant softly as you pulled away from the kiss and laughed breathlessly. “The takeout is here. Time sure flies by when you are having fun. I’ll get it.” Matt released you from his grip, but not before placing a chaste kiss on your lips.

You smiled as you ran your hand down your front to straighten it out in hopes of not looking like you were just making out with your colleague. You walked over to the door and took the food from the delivery guy, signing Matt’s name on the receipt before sending him off. You hawled the takeout boxes from the door to the table. “Shall we eat? Want me to get you some?”

“No.'' Matt shook his head. “I think I can handle myself just fine. Thank you.” He said cockily before he felt his way around to grab his boxes in the bag.

You took yours after he was done and turned to him.

He turned his head in your direction and smiled softly, hearing your heart skip a beat. “We should definitely play truth or dare again after dinner. I can give you a night you’ll never forget.”

“I’m sure you will. Now eat. You’re going to need all the strength you can get. I won’t be as easy as the other girls you’ve been with, Matty.” You teased lightly before digging into your food with a bright grin on your lips.

Matt smirked and chuckled deeply. He shook his head to himself. He knew that he would have his hands full with you and he didn’t mind in the least.
